To: Academic Senate Faculty
Dear Colleagues:
We are writing to invite you to a UCLA Connects: Senate Faculty Town Hall this Thursday at 3:30 p.m. to discuss the suspension of federal funding affecting many of our sponsored research programs, as well as the university’s financial outlook and other issues related to shared governance. This is an unsettling time for all of us, and we know there are very real concerns from Senate faculty.
As Chancellor Frenk shared, we must continue to work together as One UCLA as we actively address campus budget issues and seek to restore funding for our vital research. Many of you have urgent questions about recent campus budget decisions, funding continuity, graduate student support, salary coverage, and how all of this will affect your research and teaching in the months ahead. While we do not have all the answers, the Senate and campus administration want to be responsive to your questions, and to hear your concerns and advice.
Please join us, along with other campus leaders:
- Vice Chancellor and Chief Financial Officer Steve Agostini
- Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs and Personnel Michael Levine
- Vice Chancellor for Research and Creative Activities Roger Wakimoto
- Associate Vice Chancellor for Government and Community Relations Jennifer Poulakidas
- Senate Vice Chair/Chair Elect Megan McEvoy
- Immediate Past Senate Chair Andrea Kasko
Thursday, Aug. 14 from 3:30 – 4:30 p.m.
We believe it is important to come together — to share what we know, listen and hear your concerns directly, and support one another during this challenging time.
We hope you will join this important conversation.
Sincerely,
Darnell Hunt
Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost
Kathy Bawn
Chair, Academic Senate
