To: Academic Senate Faculty

In accordance with UCLA Academic Senate Bylaws 140 and 155, the following constitutes a distribution by electronic mail of a “Notification of Actions” taken at the Thursday, May 18, 2023, Legislative Assembly meeting. Action items are defined as “any item on the Legislative Assembly agenda, including items on the consent calendar, requiring a vote of approval.”

Materials related to the May 18, 2023, meeting of the Legislative Assembly are available on the Legislative Assembly website.

Any petition by voting members (equal to at least one-third of the members of the Legislative Assembly) on any action taken by the Legislative Assembly must be received in writing by the Academic Senate Chair within 10 instructional days from the date of distribution of this “Notification of Actions” memorandum (no later than June 8, 2023). 

Minutes become official when the Legislative Assembly approves the document at the subsequent Legislative Assembly meeting. This notification is not a substitute for, or an alteration of, the requirement to record action items in the meeting minutes.

 May 18, 2023, Legislative Assembly Meeting –Notification of Actions

1. Approval of Draft Minutes

The Legislative Assembly approved unanimously the draft minutes of the April 6, 2023, meeting as part of the Consent Calendar.

2. The Legislative Assembly approved unanimously the following revisions to bylaws or regulations as part of the Consent Calendar:

    a. New Officers and Committee Roster 2023–24

    b. Amendment to Divisional Regulation 419 for the School of Education & Information Studies Bachelor's Degree – General

        Unit Requirements

    c. Revision of Divisional Regulation 423 for the School of Education& Information Studies Bachelor's Degree – Honors

    d. Revision of the Department of Economics Bylaws

    e. Revision of the Department of Near Eastern Languages and Cultures Bylaws

    f. Revision of the Department of Statistics’ Master of Applied Statistics Bylaws

    g. Revision of the School of Nursing Bylaws

3. Proposal to Convert the MSN Degree – Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) Program to a Professional Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) Degree Program

Legislative Assembly members voted via the Academic Senate Data Management System on the proposal to convert the current MSN Degree – Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) Program to a Professional Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) Degree Program. The Legislative Assembly voted 84 In Favor, 1 Against, 4 Abstained and 18 were present but did not vote. This proposal included divisional regulations and thus required a majority of 107 voting members present to be approved. As 79% of eligible members present voted in favor, the Legislative Assembly approved this proposal.

4. Appendix V: Proposal to Discontinue the Department of Microbiology, Immunology, and Molecular Genetics' MS and PhD Programs

Legislative Assembly members voted via the Academic Senate Data Management System on the Appendix V: Proposal to Discontinue the Department of Microbiology, Immunology, and Molecular Genetics' MS and PhD Programs. The Legislative Assembly voted 87 In Favor, 1 Against, 2 Abstained, and 17 were present but did not vote. This proposal required a majority of the 107 voting members present to be approved. As 81% of eligible members present voted in favor, the Legislative Assembly approved this proposal.

5. Proposal from the Department of Urban Planning to Establish a Master of Real Estate Development (MRED) Self-Supporting Graduate Professional Degree Program

Legislative Assembly members voted via the Academic Senate Data Management System on the Proposal from the Department of Urban Planning to Establish a Master of Real Estate Development (MRED) Self-Supporting Graduate Professional Degree Program. The Legislative Assembly voted 82 In Favor, 6 Against, 0 Abstained and19 were present but did not vote. This proposal included divisional bylaws and divisional regulations, therefore requiring a 2/3 majority of 107 voting members present for approval. As 77% of eligible members present voted in favor, the Legislative Assembly approved this proposal.

6. Academic Program Review Committee Proposal

Legislative Assembly members voted via the Academic Senate Data Management System on the Academic Program Review Committee Proposal. The Legislative Assembly voted 81 In Favor, 2 Against, 5 Abstained and 19 were present but did not vote. This proposal included divisional bylaws, and thus required a 2/3 affirmative vote of 107 voting members present to be approved. As 76% of eligible members present voted in favor, the Legislative Assembly approved this proposal.

7. Post-Strike Concerns and Budget Cuts Statement

Legislative Assembly members voted via the Academic Senate Data Management System on the endorsement of the Post-Strike Concerns and Budget Cuts Statement. The Legislative Assembly voted 84 In Favor, 2 Against, 2 Abstained and 19 were present but did not vote. This proposal required a majority of the 107 voting members present to be endorsed. As 79% of eligible members present voted in favor, the Legislative Assembly endorsed this statement.
