February 6, 2025 Legislative Assembly Notification of Actions

To: Members of the Los Angeles Division of the Academic Senate

In accordance with UCLA Academic Senate Bylaws 140 and 155, the following constitutes a distribution by electronic mail of a “Notification of Actions” taken at the Thursday, February 6, 2025, Legislative Assembly. Action items are defined as “any item on the Legislative Assembly agenda, including items on the consent calendar, requiring a vote of approval.”

Materials related to the February 6, 2025, meeting of the Legislative Assembly are available on the Legislative Assembly website.

Any petition by at least one-third of the voting members of the Legislative Assembly on any actions taken by the Legislative Assembly must be received in writing by the Academic Senate Chair within 10 instructional days from the date of distribution of this “Notification of Actions” memorandum. For the February meeting, that date is February 25, 2025.

Minutes become official when the Legislative Assembly approves the document at the subsequent Legislative Assembly meeting. This notification is not a substitute for or an alteration of the requirement to record action items in the meeting minutes.

February 6, 2025, Legislative Assembly Meeting – Notification of Actions

  1. Approval of Draft Minutes:

    The Legislative Assembly approved unanimously the November 14, 2024, meeting as part of the Consent Calendar.
  2. The Legislative Assembly approved unanimously the following items as part of the Consent Calendar:
    • Amendment to the Department of Linguistics Bylaws
    • Amendment to the Department of Near Eastern Languages and Cultures Bylaws
    • Amendments to Divisional Appendix III, Appendix VI, Appendix XIII, Regulation A-306, and Regulation A-313: Proposal to Revise the Grading Grievance Process
    • Amendment to Divisional Bylaw 55
    • Amendment to Divisional Regulation A-309: The I Grade
    • Amendment to Divisional Regulation 458: Academic Requirements of the College of Letters and Science: Requirements for the Bachelor’s Degree
    • Amendment to Divisional Regulation 487 and 488: Academic Requirements of the Luskin School of Public Affairs and General Education Requirements
    • New Officers and Committee Roster 2025–26
  3. Adjunct Faculty Series Academic Senate Membership Memorial to the Regents

    Legislative Assembly members voted via the Academic Senate Data Management System on the Adjunct Faculty Series Academic Senate Membership Memorial to the Regents. The Legislative Assembly cast a total of 134 votes: 22 Approve, 110 Disapprove, 2 Decline to Act. A majority of votes cast (82%) were to Disapprove this Memorial.
  4. Health Science Clinical Faculty Series Academic Senate Membership Memorial to the Regents

    Legislative Assembly members voted via the Academic Senate Data Management System on the Health Faculty Series Academic Senate Membership Memorial to the Regents. The Legislative Assembly cast a total of 132 votes: 15 Approve, 116 Disapprove, 1 Decline to Act. A majority of votes cast (88%) were to Disapprove this Memorial.
  5. Proposal to Change the Name of the Department of Music to the Department of Music Performance, Education, and Composition

    Legislative Assembly members voted via the Academic Senate Data Management System on the proposal to change the name of the Department of Music to the Department of Music Performance, Education, and Composition. The Legislative Assembly voted 110 Approve, 9 Oppose, 3 Abstained, and 17 were present but did not vote. This proposal included divisional bylaws, and thus required a 2/3 affirmative vote of 139 voting members present for approval. As 79% of eligible members present voted in favor, the Legislative Assembly approved this proposal.
  6. Proposal to Establish a Master of Global Public Affairs

    Legislative Assembly members voted via the Academic Senate Data Management System on the proposal to establish a Master of Global Public Affairs. The Legislative Assembly voted 104 Approve, 6 Oppose, 7 Abstained, and 22 were present but did not vote. This proposal included divisional bylaws, and thus required a 2/3 affirmative vote of 139 voting members present for approval. As 75% of eligible members present voted in favor, the Legislative Assembly approved this proposal.
