Members of the Los Angeles Division of the Academic Senate
In accordance with UCLA Academic Senate Bylaws 140 and 155, the following constitutes a distribution by electronic mail of a “Notification of Actions” taken at the Thursday, May 14, 2026, Legislative Assembly. Action items are defined as “any item on the Legislative Assembly agenda, including items on the consent calendar, requiring a vote of approval.”
Materials related to the May 14, 2026, meeting of the Legislative Assembly are available on the Legislative Assembly website.
Any petition by at least one-third of the voting members of the Legislative Assembly on any actions taken by the Legislative Assembly must be received in writing by the Academic Senate Chair within 10 instructional days from the date of distribution of this “Notification of Actions” memorandum. For the May 14 meeting, that date is June 1, 2026.
Minutes become official when the Legislative Assembly approves the document at the subsequent Legislative Assembly meeting. This notification is not a substitute for or an alteration of the requirement to record action items in the meeting minutes.

May 14, 2026, Legislative Assembly Meeting – Notification of Actions
1. Approval of Draft Minutes:
The Legislative Assembly approved unanimously the draft minutes of the April 2, 2026, meeting as part of the Consent Calendar.
2. The Legislative Assembly approved unanimously the following items as part of the Consent Calendar:
- New Officers and Committee Roster 2026-27
- Amendment to Appendix VI (Appeals)
- Amendment to the Department of Comparative Literature Bylaws
- Amendment to the Department of Near Eastern Languages and Cultures Bylaws
- Amendment to the Department of World Arts & Cultures/Dance Bylaws
3. Proposal to Establish a Bachelor’s Degree and Department in Digital Humanities
Legislative Assembly members voted via the Academic Senate Data Management System on the proposal to establish a Bachelor’s Degree and Department in Digital Humanities. The Legislative Assembly voted 103 Approve, 6 Oppose, and 29 eligible members abstained. This proposal included divisional bylaws and regulations and thus required a 2/3 affirmative vote of 138 eligible voting members present for approval. As 75% of eligible members present voted in favor, the Legislative Assembly approved this proposal.
4. Proposal to Realign Select Committees of the Academic Senate
Legislative Assembly members voted via the Academic Senate Data Management System on the motion to repeal Divisional Bylaw 67.1
International Education (commonly known as Committee on International Education) and amend Divisional Bylaw 65.1 Undergraduate Council. The Legislative Assembly voted 35 Approve, 71 Oppose, and 33 eligible members abstained. This motion included divisional bylaws and thus required a 2/3 affirmative vote of 139 eligible voting members present for approval. As only 25% of eligible members present voted in favor, the Legislative Assembly did not approve this motion.
Legislative Assembly members voted via the Academic Senate Data Management System on the motion to repeal Divisional Bylaw 75.2 Library and Scholarly Information (commonly known as the Committee on Library and Scholarly Communication) and amend Divisional Bylaw 75.3 Council on Research. The Legislative Assembly voted 56 Approve, 44 Oppose, and 39 eligible members abstained. This motion included divisional bylaws and thus required a 2/3 affirmative vote of 139 eligible voting members present for approval. As only 40% of eligible members present voted in favor, the Legislative Assembly did not approve this motion.
