Committee on Library & Scholarly Communication (COLASC)

Committee Charge

The Committee on Library and Scholarly Communication (COLASC) takes, as its principal obligation, to reflect and articulate the views of UCLA faculty members concerning the role of the University Library in the acquisition, storage, and provision of scholarly materials. COLASC maintains an active relationship with the Statewide University Committee on Library and Scholarly Communication (UCOLASC) through its UCOLASC representative.

Membership

  • Nine faculty voting members appointed by the Committee on Committees and confirmed by the Legislative Assembly for a term of up to 3 years.
  • The UCLA University Librarian, ex-officio (non-voting member).
  • Two student representatives-- 1 undergraduate and 1 graduate appointed by their respective student government associations (votes reported separately).

The Committee on Library and Scholarly Communication meets once per quarter.

Interactions with Administration. The Committee on Library and Scholarly Communication's primary interactions are with the University Librarian. The committee advises the Chancellor concerning the administration of the Library and scholarly communication. The Committee represents the Division and the faculty in all matters of library policy and advises the Library administration accordingly.
