Health Sciences Clinical Professor series faculty make substantial contributions to the University through excellence in teaching, clinical proficiency, scholarly or creative achievement, and engagement in service. Due to their primary responsibilities in clinical teaching and professional service activities, scholarly or creative activity contributions may manifest in unique ways in this series.
Appendix 8 of The CALL provides examples of administrative, scholarly or academic, and patient-care creative contributions that, when substantive, can support advancement in this series. However, it is crucial that these contributions are thoroughly documented in the candidate's dossier, including supporting data where possible. To fully demonstrate the intellectual value of their scholarly or creative activities, contextual details and insightful explanations need to be included in the dossier by the candidate and the department. This may include the following:
Publications are a significant way for demonstrating scholarly or creative achievement, as publications are documented, impactful, and often searchable and indexed.
Candidates are encouraged to document their most significant activities since their last career advancement or appointment.
Candidates are encouraged to provide brief statements detailing their specific role and contributions to the activities. In collaborative projects, the candidate’s specific responsibilities and contributed sections should be clearly articulated.
Particularly for creative activities that might be viewed instead as addressing criteria for excellence in teaching or service, evidence distinguishing them from teaching or service and identifying them as scholarship or research should be provided. Such indications could include information on:
Recognition of the work's importance in public documents and venues.
Impact of findings on organizational or broader regional, national, or international levels.
Influence of knowledge in shaping the direction of the field or community practice.
Candidates are encouraged to describe the methods used to disseminate findings, including peer-reviewed and non-peer reviewed publications, project reports, newsletters, websites, seminars, professional meetings, training sessions, and online platforms.
In summary, scholarly or creative achievements are diverse and it is the responsibility of the candidate and department to provide documentation of their substantive impact.
