Academic Senate 2024 Elections Information

To: Members of the Los Angeles Division of the Academic Senate

Dear Academic Senate Faculty:

We are writing to provide information about four opportunities to run for a position and vote in the UCLA Academic Senate elections in Spring 2024. 

For the 2024–2025 academic year there are vacancies for the next Vice Chair/Chair-Elect of the Senate (who will become the Senate Chair in 2025–2026), five At-Large members of the Executive Board, ten members of the Committee on Committees (ConC), and numerous departmental representatives of the Legislative Assembly (LgA).

Academic Senate members of each department elect their own LgA representative(s) and alternates per Department Bylaws. A list of your current Representative(s) and upcoming open positions (PDF) is available. Please visit our elections web page to learn more about the available positions, nominate colleagues or yourself, and to vote. As in past years, nominations and voting will take place mostly online.

Below is a summary of key information about the Spring 2024 elections:

Monday, March 4, 2024

A notice of Elections details is sent to all Senate members. Departments receive notice regarding the election of their LgA representatives and alternates. Academic Senate members of each Department elect their LgA representatives and alternates according to Department bylaws.

Wednesday, March 13, 2024, 12:00 p.m.

Nomination period opens for Senate Vice Chair/Chair-Elect, five members of the Executive Board, and ten members of the Committee on Committees (ConC). Within each ConC constituency, members may nominate and vote for candidates in their constituency.

Friday, March 22, 2024, 12:00 p.m.

Deadline to submit nominations for Senate Vice Chair/Chair-Elect, members of the Executive Board, and ConC members.

Tuesday, April 16, 2024, 12:00 p.m.

Voting online commences via the Academic Senate Data Management System. All Academic Senate members, including Emeriti, may vote for Senate Vice Chair/Chair-Elect and ConC candidates. Within each ConC constituency, members may nominate and vote for candidates in their constituency.

Tuesday, April 30, 2024, 12:00 p.m.

End of voting period for Senate Vice Chair/Chair-Elect and ConC candidates.

Thursday, May 9, 2024

LgA members receive the Notice of LgA meeting, results of the Senate Vice Chair/Chair-Elect and ConC elections, and the slate of nominees for Executive Board.

Thursday, May 16, 2024, 2:00-4:00 p.m.

LgA members elect Executive Board members at the LgA Meeting.

Thursday, May 16, 2024, 5:00 p.m.

Deadline to submit results of Department election of LgA representatives to the Academic Senate office at LgA@senate.ucla.edu.

Announcement of the results of the Senate Vice Chair/Chair-Elect, ConC and Executive Board member elections, and the election of LgA representatives via BruinPost.
