Academic Senate 2023 Spring Elections Nomination Period

Academic Senate

To: Members of the Los Angeles Division of the Academic Senate

Dear Academic Senate Faculty:

We encourage your participation as a nominee or voter in the upcoming elections of the UCLA Academic Senate. As a reminder, we will elect a Vice Chair/Chair-Elect, three At-Large members of the Executive Board, thirteen members of the Committee on Committees (ConC), and numerous members of the Legislative Assembly (LgA).

The nomination period is now open for the Senate Vice Chair/Chair-Elect, the Executive Board, and the ConC positions. The deadline to submit nominations is Friday, April 14, 2023.

Please visit the Academic Senate Elections page for information about the open positions, eligibility, and how to nominate colleagues or yourself.

Nominations for Vice Chair/Chair-Elect

The Vice Chair (1) assumes the duties of the Chair in the Chair's absence or incapacity; (2) performs such duties as are assigned by the Chair; (3) serves as Vice Chair of the Executive Board and as an ex officio member of the Legislative Assembly. The term is one year, beginning on September 1 following election. At the conclusion of this term, the Vice Chair succeeds to the Chair. In year three, the individual serves as Immediate Past Chair.

Nominations for At-Large Members of the Executive Board

Members of the Executive Board coordinate and review actions and proposals from Senate committees and administration. They consult with and advise the Divisional Chairs on all matters, including issues brought to attention from outside the Senate or administration’s formal structures. At-large members serve two-year terms.

Nominations for Committee on Committee Members

ConC members nominate, select, and - subject to Legislative Assembly approval - appoint the Chair, Vice Chair, and all non-ex officio members of each standing committee. ConC annually appoints representatives to UC-level committees. They also suggest members for joint Senate/Administration Committees and advise the Administration on faculty nominees for search and review committees.

ConC members are elected At-Large or from defined constituencies. Each of the following constituencies has one open seat. (Note: Faculty from Departments labeled with an asterisk * are not eligible for nomination or election this cycle.) ConC seats are three-year terms.
