Academic Continuity During Fires

Senate Banner

To: All Instructors

Dear Colleagues:

UCLA administration has determined that our campus has not been directly impacted by wildfires and remains open today. We are mindful, however, that members of our community are dealing with power outages, evacuation decrees and worse. Some students and colleagues may be facing serious hardship, many others are frightened and anxious. This is a time for flexibility, empathy and understanding.

We do not plan any campuswide changes to instruction modality today. However, instructors may seek temporary emergency distance authorization from their departments as outlined in the Undergraduate Distance Education Policy and Graduate Distance Education Policy (page 7 in either document.) Today’s message from the Office of Emergency Management offers details on campus preparation and other resources. We continue to monitor the situation, and encourage you to do so too at Bruins Safe Online.

Sincerely,

Kathy Bawn
